Cóir Date: 15.12.2009 Cóir has called on the government to respect the wishes of the people and to protect human life from the moment of conception. The organization made its call today after the Supreme Court upheld a High Court decision which will allow three frozen embryos to be destroyed against the mother’s wishes.
The five judge court found that consent was required to proceed with the implantation. They also agreed with the High Court’s ruling that the embryos are not protected under Article 40.3.3 of the Constitution, and therefore not entitled to Constitutional protection. They found that the "unborn" referred to a child within the womb, and not pre-implanted embryos.

Cóir Date: 03.10.2009 Cóir has said that the passage of the Lisbon Treaty referendum is a win for the political elite but a very real loss for the Irish people who were “shamelessly bullied” into supporting the treaty. “As time passes, and the treaty comes into effect, it will be the ordinary people who will suffer as wages are cut, jobs are lost and the EU takes more power unto itself,” said Richard Greene of Cóir. Cóir Date: 01.10.2009 On the eve of the second vote on the Lisbon Treaty, Cóir has said that it is quietly confident of a No vote and is “ready to fight Lisbon 3 should it be foisted on the people yet again.” “We’re already looking at new posters, and welcome submissions from everyone for a third campaign,” said spokesman Richard Greene. “It may feel like Groundhog Day, but if that’s what it takes, we’ll do this again rather than lose our sovereignty and our constitutional rights.” “Joking aside,” he continued, “we believe the people can see what a con this treaty is, and we’re fully prepared to keep fighting to keep the EU democratic and accountable to the people.” However Mr Greene added that Cóir would not provide consultancy services to the political parties who had, yet again, failed to come up with any good reasons for voting Yes. “We’ll be focusing on making it the best campaign possible,” he said. “Maybe this time we’ll use some provocative posters and stir things up a little.” - End -

Cóir Date: 01.10.2009 Cóir have urged the electorate to make their voices heard in tomorrow's referendum by coming out to vote in massive numbers. "We're calling on the people to exercise their constitutional rights by coming out to give an emphatic No to the Lisbon Treaty," said spokesman Richard Greene. "The big issues in this campaign have been wages, jobs and loss of power," said Mr Greene. "We're calling on the people who are already suffering the lash of cuts and additional taxes to stand up for their rights by making sure they cast their votes on Friday." The Cóir spokesman said that the campaign would continue right up to close of polling on Friday, with canvassing and mobile speakers urging voters to cast their vote. "After 9.30 on Friday our vote monitoring operation will swing into force," said Mr Greene. "And then we're looking forward to burying this bad treaty."
